Me: (holding up two cute outfits) Lily, which outfit do you want to wear: A or B?
Lily: (runs to closet and grabs unmatching outfit): C.
It was one of the many moments in Lily's life where I knew we were in trouble.
For at least 6 months, I tried to fight her, but, AS USUAL, her stubbornness is unrelenting. So, for the past 2 years, she has dressed herself. In most ways, it is amazing that she gets dressed COMPLETELY by herself. I still have to prod her and hurry her, of course, but she picks out her clothes and accessories and puts them on without my help. However, sometimes, I want to be able to buy her cute monogrammed shirts or weather appropriate clothes or something that is not a dress or take her somewhere without her looking like a kid who nobody loves. I do not buy her any clothes unless I ask her first. She is VERY particular.
(I didn't look very long, so I know there are hundreds more. I just picked the first ones I found).
Aunt Manda, proceed with caution. You are going to freak out when you see that I let her leave this house in some of these outfits. #nojudgment
Her preschool teacher from last year texted me these pictures.
I LOVE her school, and all of the teachers embraced Lily's...creativity... with accessories.
It was May, but she insisted on wearing a pink sweater from Aunt Manda.
This was in June.
Yes, those are socks with her sandals.
This picture was taken in JULY. In 90 degree weather. Socks with the sandals, again. White dress, black leggings, blue socks, purple sandals, pink sweater.
Water shoes, 4 bows in her hair.
A bracelet on each ankle and each wrist. And a leotard.
She had on red glitter shoes (from Noni) with this dress.
(this was at Michaels)
She also had on the red glitter shoes, which looked awesome* with the neon pink. The best** part of this outfit was the 3 inches of white eye shadow she put on by herself. Please zoom in if you can't see it. We were at the house of a brand new friend for our first play date with them, so that was interesting.
An actual cute outfit- and two cute girls!
I got these for $10 each on the Gymboree clearance.
She likes to accessorize with belts and green headbands and dancing ribbons.
We forgot practical shoes for the birthday party that was outside in a stable. My friend, Alyson, will come through for me every time.
Pink Minnie Mouse shirt, purple skirt, blue/pink shoes, and a green bow.
I was just excited that she didn't have on with the sandals.
We didn't actually leave the house in this outfit. It was especially weird:
pink/green pajama pants, pink striped dress, gray Halloween shirt.
Fish nightgown (from Granddaddy), raccoon knee socks.
We went to play with Eloise at 3 on a Sunday. Lily changed into a clean nightgown for the occasion. Eloise was wearing a tutu and black heels. Her mommy has to pick her battles, too.
She came downstairs and exclaimed:
"Mom! The butterfly is trying to land on the flower!"
And, OF COURSE, here is a video of what happened when I tried to make her wear what I wanted her to wear. #stupidhead
